CRITIQUE PROCESS 1. Describe the artwork- List what you see in the artwork 2. Analyze the art work- List art elements and design principles 3. Interpret the artwork- What is the mood? What is the story being told? 4. Judge the artwork- What do you think of the artwork? Is it successful? CRITIQUE OF MY PIECE 1. I see a smooth white cylinder with brown on top, and a green cylinder with texture on top of that. I came up with these shapes because I felt that they would be a simple yet nice-looking. 2. I used texture, thin vertical lines, bright colors, and carving into the clay. When brainstorming, I started thinking about what artistic elements I could use. The reason I choose a cactus in a pot was because I could utilize many techniques and principles. 3. The mood of the piece is relaxed, but bright and happy 4. I think that this piece was one of my favorites I have made in the class. I just really liked how I was able to execute my idea, which was really cool. While I wish I could have made the pot not just a plain white, I think it worked with the piece. I hope to make more pieces like this in the future, as it was both fun to make a turned out pretty good, 3 QUESTIONS
List some reasons that an artist would need to use observation when making artwork When an artist is creating their piece and it is based off of a real person/object, is important to observe the object to insure it is as proportional and realistic as possible. The artist must get a feel for its coloring, shadows, and light. When the artist doesn't do this, the piece will not look quite right. Medium: which medium did you most enjoy working with and why? Which medium did you not use but wish you had explored? Include photo. I enjoyed acrylic paint the most of all the mediums. I like it because there is a wide range of colors that you can mix and change to go with what you are doing. I liked how if you messed up, you could just paint over it and nobody would know (unlike other mediums). I also found it relaxing and fun to do, but I really wish is could have worked with watercolor a bit more, as I love the colors they produce. Was there a tool you had never used before and learned in this class? What was it and how did you use it? Before this class, the only watercolor I had used was in those cheap plastic pallets when I was a kid. While this may not be a tool, using REAL watercolor was an eye opening experience. I liked how we used Saran Wrap, salt, and different brush techniques to make cool effects.
