1. This portrait is of my little cousin, Maryetta 2. I used acrylic paint 3. First I sketched and primed my piece. Then I focused on the skin tone, then the hair, and lastly the smaller details like eyes. 4. I really like how the skin turned out, but if I was to do this again I would try to fix the hair, because it isn't the right color. Watercolor perspective1. I used one point perspective for my piece.
2. I took this photo on a family vacation I had in Belize 3. Making reflections on the water was the most difficult part of the project. 4. The watercolor techniques gave me a bunch of new ways to do watercolor. The real life perspective gave me a better understanding on what exactly perspective was in the world 1. The body parts warmup was for sure the most helpful. Getting a precise was to draw these often difficult to do pieces is making my portrait better.
2. I really was surprised to hear that the eyes are exactly halfway on our face. I really did not know that, and knowing that has made my drawings look much more accurate NOTE: The only linocut activity I have found is a sketch of my piece
1. My piece utilizes line by showcasing vertical, diagonal, and horizontal lines throughout the piece. In the pineapple and In the background lines are used 2. If I was to do this again, I would try to switch up the ink/paper colors to spice up my piece. Other than that I liked how my piece turned out, though I wish I was a bit more precise. CRITIQUE PROCESS 1. Describe the artwork- List what you see in the artwork 2. Analyze the art work- List art elements and design principles 3. Interpret the artwork- What is the mood? What is the story being told? 4. Judge the artwork- What do you think of the artwork? Is it successful? CRITIQUE OF MY PIECE 1. I see a smooth white cylinder with brown on top, and a green cylinder with texture on top of that. I came up with these shapes because I felt that they would be a simple yet nice-looking. 2. I used texture, thin vertical lines, bright colors, and carving into the clay. When brainstorming, I started thinking about what artistic elements I could use. The reason I choose a cactus in a pot was because I could utilize many techniques and principles. 3. The mood of the piece is relaxed, but bright and happy 4. I think that this piece was one of my favorites I have made in the class. I just really liked how I was able to execute my idea, which was really cool. While I wish I could have made the pot not just a plain white, I think it worked with the piece. I hope to make more pieces like this in the future, as it was both fun to make a turned out pretty good, 3 QUESTIONS
List some reasons that an artist would need to use observation when making artwork When an artist is creating their piece and it is based off of a real person/object, is important to observe the object to insure it is as proportional and realistic as possible. The artist must get a feel for its coloring, shadows, and light. When the artist doesn't do this, the piece will not look quite right. Medium: which medium did you most enjoy working with and why? Which medium did you not use but wish you had explored? Include photo. I enjoyed acrylic paint the most of all the mediums. I like it because there is a wide range of colors that you can mix and change to go with what you are doing. I liked how if you messed up, you could just paint over it and nobody would know (unlike other mediums). I also found it relaxing and fun to do, but I really wish is could have worked with watercolor a bit more, as I love the colors they produce. Was there a tool you had never used before and learned in this class? What was it and how did you use it? Before this class, the only watercolor I had used was in those cheap plastic pallets when I was a kid. While this may not be a tool, using REAL watercolor was an eye opening experience. I liked how we used Saran Wrap, salt, and different brush techniques to make cool effects. 1. First, I used a slab of clay wrapped around PVC pipe to make the "pot" or base of the plant. Then, I rolled out coils and built my cactus on top of the base. I added texture/details, then the piece was fired and glazed 2. I really like the texture I added to the cactus on my piece 3. If I was to do this again, I would maybe do diffrent cacti or make these a series print- A print is an impression made by any method involving transfer from one surface to another.
